The New Way to Work: ODesk
Gary Swart is the CEO of ODesk, a marketplace for online work teams where customers can hire, manage, or get a job based on time, a project, or a contract. It allows you to work with people from all over the world, and has a very well contained online payment system.
They gurantee payment through the time tracking billing system. “It’s not about the quality of work. If you’ve worked an hour, I’m gonna pay you for that hour,” that is the risk that the office workers at ODesk take, making sure that payment is fulfilled every week.
There are more than 5000 providers hiring, and there are just as much employees registering with odesk and uploading their resume. “Buyer’s are looking for a more cost effective way to get things done,” Swart explains. “This is the new way for companies to save money.”
ODesk’s office workers are distributed around the world, introducing odesk to different parts of the country, and making more jobs available. The work can be observed online, and completed through collaboration between the contractor and the employee. There can be any sized project such as translating a document, creating a logo, or even a marketer for a company.
