Students Riot and Protest in London Over Tripling of Tuition Fees
It seems impossible to not talk about it. The Royal Wedding is on everyone’s lips. But this time it isn’t the center of attention. Rather it is the reason why other issues have gone unnoticed – issues happening in the very backyard of the royal garden.
Protests over austerity measures taken by the government which would see tuition costs rise have been taking place in London since around November of last year. At the beginning there was coverage, but little by little attention has been shifted to other issues until many – aided by the news networks – have practically forgotten all about it.
And these aren’t the only protests happening. There have been tons of demonstrations about Libya and other Middle Eastern protests in London and other parts of England, even during the days when the royal wedding preparations invade our television screens. Also about rising unemployment and the cutting of social services as budgets are cut. These are just some of the issues that for some reason are not being shown.
This video gives us a good overview of the Tuition issue. I urge you to look for more information on your own, because it is almost certain that after the royal wedding, the royal family will continue to steal the spotlight.
