What’s The Big Deal About Margaret Thatcher?
She not only ran the U.K. from 1979 to 1990, but she got the ball rolling on many important ideas that influenced Britain, and worldwide.
After cutting public services and tax, Thatcher created the idea that “greed is good”, leading her country out of economic misery. She fought (and won) the Falkland War, reclaiming the island from Argentina in just two months; she also sent troops to assist in ending the Cold War, even in her country’s poor state. Lastly, though she spoke against homosexuality, she spoke about it, something no one was doing. This sparked a huge public response, and a large movement in Britain. Current Prime Minister David Cameron is fighting to legalize gay marriage, some would say, thanks to the fight Thatcher started.
May one of the most important world leaders in modern history rest in peace. Yeah, she kinda was a big deal.
