Eoin Colfer, pronounced as Owen, is the Irish author of the Aretmis Fowl book series, as well as the author of Doctor Who: A Big Hand for the Doctor. He is interviewed by a young reader on how he got his inspiration for a story about a hunter for faieries, and why Colfer has made it appeal so greatly to young readers when it is a very complicated and technological Artemis Fowl story.

Colfer also elaborates on his experiences with children and how he was part of the WarLord club as a child where they had to decode messages for attending the sessions of the club. This is also where he got the idea for including coded messages at the bottom of each page in his book series.

Colfer admits that he liked reading science fiction at the age of twelve including many of Steven King’s books, but because they are claimed to be adult books, he has specifically incorporated advanced technology and other science fiction concepts into his 8 book series to make them suitable for children, as well as time travel in Doctor Who.
