The Biggest Thing in the Universe

Mike Merrifield and Ed Copeland discuss the meaning of this structure in the universe that keeps getting bigger. It could be a combination of several black holes, or several planets getting sucked into the gravitational pull of the center of this structure and so many other possibilities.

Fluctuations in space cause large structures to form, how this one was formed is hard to explain. Copeland explains how fluctuations in space happen randomly and rapidly to keep up with the speed of the universe expanding. They stretch on large cosmological scales, and that is exactly what Merrifield and Copeland are studying.

The nuclei of this big structure is active because it is constantly lit meaning that stuff is always falling into it and making it get bigger. It looks like a star, but it doesn’t mean it is homogenious. If you look carefully, you’ll see a whole galaxy around this star.
